We are a friendly group of folk
whose philosophy is one of combining musical enjoyment for our members and for
our audience, whilst allowing members to develop their musical skills in a
supportive environment.
We welcome new
members in any voice part. There are no formal auditions (we suggest trying us
out for a couple of weeks to seek mutual compatibility) and whilst the ability
to read music is beneficial it is more important to want to enjoy singing
and to be part of a social group whose aim is to help and support
others.
VENUES
Practices are held in Speen Village Hall.
Speen Lane, Newbury
on Tuesday evenings between 7:45 pm and 10:00 pm.
Speen is a village 1 mile west
of Newbury on the A4 between the town centre and the bypass. Speen Lane runs
south and parallel to the A4 and can be approached from the western end at War
Memorial or from the Old Bath Road at the town centre end.
Concerts and appearances are held at various
venues including churches, village halls, social clubs, old folks homes and
occasionally outdoors e.g. carol singing at Christmas and pub gardens during
the summer.
Depending on the occasion the
Cromwell Singers
give the entire concert or join with other musicians. In order to perform
major works we sometimes combine with other choirs, e.g. Newbury Music
Festival of Choirs held at the Corn Exchange.
